Ask, it will be given to you

The WORD in Other Words by Sr Marie Grace Puzon SSpS (Philippines)

Thursday Week 1 Lent
Esther 12,14-16.23-25
Matthew 7,7-12

Ordinarily, a mother gives what a child asks for if that is good for the child. She   turns down the request otherwise.   Our Lord says, “Ask and you will receive; seek and you will find; knock and the   door will be opened to you. For everyone who asks will receive, and anyone who seeks  will find, and the door will be opened to him who knocks.” God always answers our   prayers: “yes ” when it is good for us; “no” when it is not, or “wait, pray some more.”

Every time we come to Him in prayer, we should trust Him, for He alone knows  what is good for us. “I alone know the plans I have for you, plans to bring about the  future you hope for” (Jeremiah 29:11).

He does not answer our prayers on our own  terms. He does it in His own way according to His wisdom and love. He is God, so we leave everything to Him. He alone knows what will redound to our own good. We should learn to surrender our will to Him.

If we do this, we will be at peace and not become worried and upset when He does not answer our prayer in the way we want. We should let God be God; we do not dictate what He has to do for us. He is always thinking what is good for us, for God is love.

One time, Sister Velia Christine asked our community to pray for the sick relative   of one of the Banco de Oro tellers in Tagaytay. God listened to our prayers. She was   healed. The Lord is good. He is kind and loving.
