Hold on to God’s love

Moments in Philippine Daily Inquirer by Fr Jerry Orbos SVD

In the Gospel according to John. 3, 14-21, we hear the most important verse of the whole Bible: “For God so loved the world that He gave His only Son, so that everyone who believes in Him might not perish but might have eternal life” (Jn. 3, 16). Yes, God loves us so much; His love is endless, and it goes on and on and on!

Why does God love us so much? We are all unworthy of God’s love, and yet He continues to love us! All is grace, and grace is a mystery, tremendous and true. We can never understand or fathom this mystery. We just believe, accept and trust. Given such a privilege and blessing, all we can do is say “Thank You, Lord!” and live a life of gratitude.

Believe and keep on believing! It is easy to believe in God’s love when times are good and resources are aplenty, but not when trials, failures and difficulties come. It is precisely at such times that we must hold on, and hold on tight to God’s love. The evil one’s agenda is to make us let go of God’s love, and live a life of emptiness, bitterness, discouragement and despair. Let us not turn our backs on God, especially when the journey is rough, and times are hard and uncertain.

Kapit tuko to the Lord!” Like a child who holds on to his/her mother’s hand, we, too, must never let go of God’s hand, no matter what happens. Better still, let us ask the Lord to hold us and embrace us so that we will always be in His hands, and in His heart.
