Saturday 4th Week of Easter
Acts 13:44-52, John 14:7-14
Easter is the season for celebrating the new life won for us by the Resurrected Christ and given to us in the Sacrament of Baptism. Understanding this fact of our faith is understanding our gospel today. Jesus is the Word—Made—Flesh, the visible manifestation of the invisible God who enables us to be doers of wonders.
The fruit of Easter is truly unbelievable and can only be described as too good to be true, and they are true. We see a hint of this truth in responsible parents who dedicate their lives for the welfare and success of their children. Many parents are always proud of their children‘s achievements, which oftentimes they have never realized in their own lives.
This is what Jesus declared to his disciples: “Amen, amen, I say to you, whoever believes in me will do the works that I do, and will do greater ones than these, because I am going to the Father. And whatever you ask in my name, I will do, so that the Father may be glorified in the Son. If you ask anything of me in my name, I will do it.” Conditions to make this dream of Jesus come true are surely guaranteed by his Easter life.
Fr. David Haas, a renowned American song composer, wrote The Heart of God, where it mentions that people who realize goodness toward other people become the windows to the Heart of God. Jesus‘ declaration that whoever has seen him has seen the Father is also an invitation to any believer to manifest Him to those with whom we are in contact. Our good deeds aim to show Jesus to others as we become windows to the Heart of God. This way we create wonders.
