Focus on Jesus

The WORD in Other Words by Fr Anthony Salas SVD (Philippines), Tuesday Week 27 Ordinary Time, Jon 3:1-10, Lk 10:38-42

October, the month of the holy rosary, is also celebrated in my parish with a   nightly recitation of the rosary in different houses of the Basic Ecclesial Community   (BEC) members. Last year, I decided to join these nightly rosary prayers in any of the   500 family groups in all 28 Basic Ecclessial Communities (BEC) of the parish.

Since   my participation in these communal prayers is unannounced, my arrival and presence   have caused commotion. The host family would have their instant house cleaning   even in the middle of praying the decades of the rosary.

Some are frantic on what   to serve after the prayers especially that “Father” is around. Not once that a mother   or grandmother would ask the children kneeling before the family altar to remove a   calendar with a sexy girl on the cover, hanging beside the altar.

So, instead of the   community praying the rosary, everyone get distracted in trying to make me at ease   and comfortable.

In today‘s gospel, Jesus points out to Martha, “You are anxious and worried about   many things. There is need of only one thing. Mary has chosen the better part and it   will not be taken from her.”

We are invited to focus on Jesus. His presence is more than enough.

We can have him as we adore silently before the blessed sacrament. We   can listen to Him as we listen to the readings at mass or when we read and share his   words during our bible sharing sessions.

His words and teachings are life giving. He is also present with us and in us in all the events of our lives. No matter how painful and frustrating they may have been, we trust him because He is full of mercy and compassion.
