Divine Word Missionaries in Liberia for almost four years now

Last November 9 2015, the Provincial of the Ghana Province, Fr George Clement Angmor SVD led a team of three confreres to Monrovia, Liberia, to begin the mission work. They are  Fr Jozef Mazur SVD, Fr Joseph Addai SVD and Fr Louis Yao Awoudja SVD.

The Divine Word Missionaries were officially welcomed in Liberia by the Most Reverend Andrew Jaggy Karnley, Bishop of the Catholic diocese of Cape Palmas last November 15 2015 in a Sunday Mass at Christ the King Parish in Zwedru City, Grand Gedeh County.

Within the said Sunday Mass, the Bishop announced Fr Mazur as the new parish priest of Christ the King Parish, Zwedru City.

Later, in January 2018, a new SVD mission station opened in Immaculate Conception Parish, Pipe Line, Monrovia.

The Provincial Council appointed Fr Louis Awoudja SVD along with another confrere yet to be ordained to join him in October 2018. Bro. Wisdom Agbovi, originally appointed to Zwedru, is in Monrovia until the other confrere arrives.

A contract was signed this past January with Archbishop Lewis Zeigler of the Archdiocese of Monrovia. The Monrovia mission is under the patronage of the first SVD missionary, St. Joseph Freinademetz.

On the same day, during the Holy Mass officiated by Archbishop Zeigler, Fr. Awoudja was officially presented as the new parish priest of the Immaculate Conception Parish.
