The WORD in Other Words by Fr Glenn Paul Gomez SVD (Philippines)
Tuesday 2nd Week of Easter
Acts 4:32-37 John 3:7b-15
Do we want to gain eternal life? Jesus, in today‘s Gospel, gives us one tip on how to gain eternal life: Be born from above; be born of Spirit. What does it mean to be born of Spirit, to be born from above?
Nicodemus, a teacher of Israel and a secret follower of Jesus. asked the same question. Jesus said to him: If I tell you earthly things and you do not believe, how will you believe if I tell you heavenly things?
Let‘s look at earthly things: All forms of matter, due to gravitational force, fall. Entropy tells us there is gradual decline into disorder. We, who were born, and those who will be born in the future, will surely die. Needless to say, our life here on earth is temporary. Do we believe in these?
Now, let‘s talk about heavenly things: God sent His angels, Only Son and the Holy Spirit from above. What‘s God‘s purpose? To remind us humans of our true nature and where we truly belong.
Who are we? What‘s our true nature? We are children of God; we belong to Him. Heaven is our home We will not understand this unless we are born from above.. unless we are born of Spirit.
