God’s instruments

The WORD in Other Words by Fr Dindo Santiago SVD (Japan)

Saturday 14th Week in Ordinary Time

Gn 49:29-32; 50:15-26a, Mt 10:24-33

Last November 2—4, 2017, the SVD Japan Province held its provincial chapter.   We spent long hours discussing the different issues we face and decided on how to address them as we carry on with our mission — in fact, Christ‘s mission. To listen to  the signs of the times may prove to be a difficult task, to discern a tall order and to respond an even greater challenge. However, in all humility, we realize that we are but God‘s instruments in proclaiming His kingdom on earth, specifically for us here in Japan among the people we serve.

No matter how tough our situation may be, we are consoled and encouraged by  the words of the Gospel today. The gospel serves as a powerful reminder that it is His   words that we speak, His message that we proclaim, His hope that we share to all.

Though at times life can be difficult, we shall rise above all because we know that the   Father strengthens us with His providence and constant care for us, especially with the   words, “Do not be afraid; you are worth more than many sparrows.” He knows what   is best for us, and what we need for our mission.

It may not be an easy task, but for as   long as we stay attuned to His Spirit, always acknowledging the Lord as our Savior,   we shall never go wrong.

We proclaim once again today before all people in words and in deeds that Christ   is our Lord, and all that what we do we offer for His glory.
