How to journey with our youth today?

The WORD in Other Words by Fr Jerry Orbos SVD (Philippines) on the Solemnity of the Nativity of Saint John the Baptist

The story is told about a teacher who held 10 apples in one hand, and 10 oranges in his other hand, and asked his class: “What do I have?” Almost every one answered: “You have 20 fruits, or “You have 10 apples and 10 oranges,” except little Jimmy who said: “Wow. Sir, you have big hands!”

The young people see things and do things differently. The so-called millennials deserve our attention and respect. As adults we must learn to grow up with them, to become more of a coach and consultant, and less of a controller. They have a life of their own.

Let us journey with them. Let us not hinder nor stifle them from becoming what God wants them to become.  Let us not burden them with our Impositions, Control, and Expectations. ICE! Otherwise, they’ll get frozen. Let us learn to “let it go.” Yes, let go, and let God. Let us do our very best, and to God, let us leave the rest.
